Located in the hinterland of Chongqing,
in the middle reaches of Three Gorges Reservoir Area and the
junction of Yangtze River and Wujiang River, Fu Ling is the
largest distributing center along the course of Wujiang
River. |
It became one of 40 districts of Chongqing in 1998.
With 48 villages, townships and sub-district offices under
its jurisdiction, Fu Ling covers a total area of 2946 square
kilometers with a population of 1.08 million, among which
850 thousand are rural population. Agricultural economy is
its pillar industry.
Fuling is located in the sub-tropical
climate zone swept by the moist monsoon. It has mild climate
and ample rainfall, with rain and heat occurring in the same
season. The annual average temperature is 16¡ª18¡æ
and relative humidity is 79%. The frost-free period is as
long as 300¡ª320
days and sunshine time is up to 1079¡ª1349
hours. The total rainfall amount reaches 1072¡ª1182mm.
The rate of drought occurring in summer (July and August)
and in winter is 79% and 90% respectively.
The area of cultivated land and of grass
land and hills in Fu Ling reaches 1750 thousand mu and 1.17
million mu. Water-covered area and non-development area is
209 thousand mu and 625 thousand mu. Purple soil, the main
type of soil in this area covers 1.86 million mu, paddy soil
and yellow soil reaches 760 thousand and 740 thousand mu
respectively.
In recent years, the annual total output of grain keeps 46
tons, the output of oil plants, fruit and aquatic products
is 6 thousand, 50 thousand and 7 thousand tons. About 790
thousand pigs are raised for slaughter per year. Cabbage
mustard is the main agricultural by-product in this
district, its planting area is 200 thousand mu with the
total yield of 400 thousand tons. It was processed to 150
thousand tons of pickled mustard tuber each year, the
product value was 0.74 billion yuan.
